My name is Olivia. I have tried to write and rewrite this first post for over seven months now. I know, rather pathetic, but let me explain.
United World Colleges is a two year academic program that I have dreamed about for almost two and a half years now. It “makes education a force to unite peoples, nations and cultures for a peace and sustainable future”, by bringing people from all different nationalities, socio-economic backgrounds, languages, cultures and lifestyles to one of the 17 school campuses located around the world. Right now, I am in the final stage of the applications. I have been accepted to the program, but I do not know which school I will be attending. As someone who is rather impatient, this is a somewhat high stress time!
While I was researching and trying to decide if this program was right for me, I found the dozens and dozens of blogs from current and former UWC students. While the campus websites were great tools, the blogs and volgs, offered a glimpse into the day to day lives of students at the many campuses around the world. I told myself that when I got in to the program I would start writing and using this blog to help keep track of my life at UWC and for the future interested applicants.
Right now, sunday march 5th 2017 at 9:32, very few people know that I have been accepted to the program. My parents, and grand parents have told double the amount of people I’ve told! So this first blog post is very important to me as it signifies breaking the wall and telling people something that I hold so dearly to my heart.
I’m not sure if I will use the blog to promote the program, or maybe just to keep my people updated on my life while away. I would prefer to create a youtube channel and tell my story via video, but I am not sure as there are several kinks I need to work out. I am better at communicating through talking to people, face to face (or I guess face to screen lol), but that sentiment alone might be a real reason for why I should write the blog. On the other hand, my parents are huge grammar nerds so before I could post anything, it would have to be written and then corrected with two rough drafts.
Lots to consider, challenging but exciting times are ahead.
